27 years expertise, he has constructed and designed many multistoreyed RCC structures, including
Gymnasium in Punjab University (castinsitu) having 100 feet clear span, which is the largest in any
University in Asia. He was consultant to Engineering Consortium in 1982 in Baghdad (Iraq) and
Member, Governing Council, Indian Concrete Institute, Madras (19821985).
He has authored many books on Arbitration, Contracts and Partnership: Arbitration Law and Practice;
Law Relating to Arbitration and Conciliation (8th Edition); Building and Engineering Contracts –
Law and Practice (4th Edition, in 2 volumes, published in 2013); Law of Contract (3rd Edition, in 2
volumes, published in 2013); Law of Partnership (1st Edition, published in 2010); Arbitration – Step
by Step (1st Edition, published in 2012 by M/s LexisNexis Butterworths, India) are few among them.
Recently he has authored a Chapter on “Law of Arbitration and Conciliation” in Halsbury’s Laws of
India. He is also assigned the task of revision of Emden’s “Building and Engineering Contracts” [likely
to be published in September, 2014].
Dr. Markanda has addressed various International Conferences at home and abroad on topics relating
to Law of Arbitration and Law of Contract. He has also participated in many national and international
conferences/seminars/workshops. He has published over 40 papers in National and International
Journals.
He has served as Vice-President of the Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) for two consecutive terms
(2007-2008 and 2008-2009) and was a member of the Governing Body of ICA for 8 consecutive terms
(1986-2010). Currently, his membership is from 2011 for a term of 4 years.
At present, Dr. Markanda is the Senior Vice-President (North) and Member, Governing Council, Indian
Institute of Technical Arbitrators, Chennai; Member, Editorial Board of the Quarterly Journal of the
